A dream in the Making

In October 2005 we purchased land in Coon Valley, Wisconsin with the intention of developing a sustainable homestead, herb farm and learning center. We hope to craft our relationship with this land in a sustainable manner; bringing natural building techniques, earth friendly growing practices, land restoration, wild foraging, herbal wisdom and more!! We hope to continue providing our existing programs while transforming them as we integrate them and ourselves in our new home. We are also accepting donations of time, labor, supplies and financial resources. Feel free to offer these at any time to rosemarygoddess@moonwiseherbs.com

The land is currently 20 acres of previously farmed organic land, with approximately 6 acres of woodland. As of November 2005 We moved our old school bus there and are able to stay in it, even during the winter months, as we installed a wood stove!!

February 2005 we stayed in the bus while attending the Midwest Organic Farming Conference: all went well with the wood stove.

April 2006 With the help of a willing apprentice we installed a large patch of raspberries. We also moved the bus to it's permanent location over looking the wooded area. We only had to be towed out of the mud once!! 

July 2006 We planted trees as our patriotic celebration, kayaked down the Kickapoo River and installed a composting toilet outhouse, that John's Dad put together and transported from Florida!! We also freed the raspberries from the thistles that surrounded them and harvested some berries!!

September 2006 The excavator leveled part of the farm road leading to the property and created a driveway as well as parking area. This is the first intrusive development we have contributed to the land. We went to see it this past weekend and it is a blessing that we can more easily get in and out and it is distressing to see the impact on the land.  This will take some getting used to. It also brings us closer to being able to build our home and actually live on the land!!
