Participants will be treated to tips from Linda's years of experience incorporating wild edibles into her diet as well as feeding others. She is the founder of Wild Eats; a Wild and Whole Foods Community Meal, which has inspired people across the country to incorporate tasty wild and while foods into their daily life. We will make and sample a variety of whole and wild food snacks including kelp cookies, rosehip soda, nettle pesto dip, roasted burdock "coffee" and much more!! We will examine the nutritional value of wild edibles as well as food preparation techniques that increase their nutrient density. You will leave with recipes, a full belly and a whole lot of inspiration! Medicinal Herb Walk- June 13, 2008 Where? Meet at the University of Washington Medicinal Herb Garden Offered through Dandelion Botanical Company 5424 Ballard Ave Seattle, WA For info and to register call: 206-545-8892 Cost: $30.00 ($5 will be donated to the upkeep of the garden) Join herbalist Linda Conroy for a walk through the historic Medicinal Herb Garden at the University of Washington. We will learn the history of the garden, very relevant to the relationship of herbalism to convential medicine today. We will spend this afternoon/early evening enjoying the medicinal plants and learning their applications for promoting health and correcting dis-ease. Creating your own herbal soap is easy and fun! Spend time making soap that you can take home and enjoy. This hands-on class will allow you to explore the art of combining Soapanified oils and herbs to create your own special soap. This is soap making from scratch-just like your great grandma used to make with an herbal touch to give your soap that luxurious touch. We will explore the art of creating luxurious soap that incorporates fresh goat milk (cow as well as whey will also be discussed). Milk based soap makes the creamiest soap around. It is considered a delicacy in the soap market. This class will offer essential tips to creating your own. We will also learn about a variety of whole herbs that can be included to create unique batches of soap. Participants will take home recipes as well as some of the soap we create in class. Bring rubber gloves, 4 small yogurt containers with a lid and an old towel. All other supplies provided. Material fee $7 June 12, 2008 (6-9:30pm) at The University of Washington Women's Center. For information call 206-685-1090 __________________________________________ Pine Needle Basket Weaving This class will not be offered in Seattle in 2008, watch for it to be scheduled in 2009 Learn to weave a simple pine needle basket. You will learn coiling and simple stitches as you weave a small basket to take home. You will leave with the skills to make a variety of baskets at home!! In the all day classes we will have the opportunity to incorporate other items into our baskets as well as make a lid.

DIVE IN FOR A SEAWEED TALK & TASTE! Join us for a delicious night exploring the mysterious world of seaweed; an abundant and nutritious piece of our Northwest ecosystem! Linda Conroy, wild forager, cook, crafter, herbalist and cheesemaker of Moonwise Herbs will bring samples and discuss different types of seaweeds and share information about wild foraging, and how to incorporate these nutrient dense foods into your everyday eating! Whether you plan to forage your own or not you will learn the benefits of incorporating seaweed into your diet as well as an appreciation for their place in the ecosystem. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Broom Making: A Functional Art Discover the art of making handmade brooms! You will be guided through this beautiful and functional art. Students will learn to make one round or one flat hearth broom (your choice), weaving and sowing the broom corn into place by hand. These brooms look beautiful hung on the wall, either by a hearth or other area of your house and are a function piece of art that you will treasure for years to come. Handles of various types of wood have been gathered and cured for you to use, and all materials are provided. Discussion about decorative options as well as the history of broom making and broom corn (the grass used to make all natural brooms) will be included. Limit 12 people
