About the event
Besom is an old world term for a witches broom. Fall is a traditional time of year to craft a broom. Brooms have historically been made from a wide variety of materials, depending on what was available. As a very sturdy option, broom corn (a type of sorghum) has become the standard material used in making brooms. In this workshop, everyone will make either a round or flat hearth broom (your choice), that is both functional and magical. If you have a special handle you would like to bring, make sure it is cured (dried for several months), is mostly straight, is 18-20" and has a hole drilled at the top end, so that you can add leather or other material for hanging your broom. Handles will be available for those who do not have one, or whose handle will not work for this project. A material fee of $95 is paid to the instructor at the time of class, this covers your broom. Materials for making another broom will be available during class for an additional fee. Includes Lunch. Register here!
